Wat is de Kerk van Nellius?

De Kerk van Nellius is opgericht in 1982 en behoort tot de zogenaamde UFO-religies. Deze worden binnen de godsdienstwetenschap weer ondergebracht in de categorie nieuwe religieuze bewegingen (NRB). Om aan de criteria hiervoor te voldoen moet een kerk na 1945 zijn opgericht en moet men geloven in buitenaards leven (1). Een bekend voorbeeld is de scientologykerk.

De Kerk van Nellius valt ook onder de categorie religieuze sektes, omdat het een charismatisch leider heeft die een goddelijke status geniet binnen de gemeenschap (2). De huidige leider Fillius Viatoris is de tweede in lijn, nadat zijn vader en oprichter Viatoris in 2021 overleed.

WHAT IS THE CHURCH OF NELLIUS?

The Church of Nellius was founded in 1982 and belongs to the so-called UFO religions. Within religious studies, these are furthermore regarded to belong in the category of new religious movements (NRM). To meet the criteria for this classification, a church must have been established after 1945 and one must believe in extraterrestrial life (1). A well-known example is the Church of Scientology.

The Church of Nellius also falls under the category of religious cults, as it has a charismatic leader who enjoys divine status within the community (2). Current leader Fillius Viatoris is second in line after his father and founder Viatoris passed away in 2021.
